Dear Parents,
As school counselor I have the privilege of working with all of the students in the school. I follow the Missouri Comprehensive Guidance Program as set forth by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in order to provide classroom instruction in the areas of personal/social development, academic development, and career development. As part of the Guidance Program for Junction Hill C-12, I visit each grade level to engage students in activities and discussions based on the guidance grade level expectations. The Missouri Guidance Grade Level Expectations can be viewed at www.missouricareereducation.org.
Along with providing guidance lessons to students in the classroom setting, I also make myself available to students on an individual or small group basis. Everything students tell me will be confidential with the exception of anything that will cause harm to them or someone else. As a mandated reporter I am required by law to report such instances. See more about confidentiality by clicking on the "Confidentiality" tab.
One of the focuses for the seventh and eighth grades students is high school, college, and career readiness. Throughout the year these students will learn about educational choices that will impact their future. We will learn about the local high schools, the A+ Scholarship Program, college requirements (we will even practice buying textbooks), and career choices. Seventh grade students will begin a journal and continue with it through their 8th grade year. When students graduate 8th grade they will have a completed portfolio containing their 9th grade high school schedule, a list of honors and activities from their years at Junction Hill, their Missouri Connections Interest Inventory, and pages from their journal.
It is my desire to provide your children with an atmosphere that is safe and where students are encouraged to learn and grow in order to achieve their goals. I want to work with you to make this the best year ever for your child. Studies show that parental involvement in a child's education is a strong indicator of student achievement. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me via phone or email. If you would like to visit with me in person, please call the school to schedule an appointment.
Sincerely,
DeAnn Sellers
